The story of Five Miles West

For going on twenty years, Five Miles West has been laying down their own brand of red dirt country music with a sound as authentic and tough as the white rock and red dirt in Lea County, New Mexico.

They've put in the hard work to carve out their own place and make a name for themselves throughout the Permian Basin playing dancehalls, honkytonks, and concerts opening shows for Sam Riggs, Cody West, Rick Trevino, Jason Boland and many others.

In September of 2021 the band recorded their first original song in the studio with Steven Thomas in over a decade. "This is Love". Then only a month later, Lead guitarist of 17 years, Daniel Heard passed away from COVID. This should have been, and almost was the final blow for Five Miles West. After doing several shows as a three piece throughout the majority of 2022 the band stumbled across a young man to play lead guitar.

Now, despite struggles, disaster (natural & otherwise), along with the discouragement of trying to replace a longtime friend and bandmate, the boys are back. More like the middle aged men are back.

Renewed and refreshed, Five Miles West has hit the ground running with their original sound, a new energy, and some new  songs for 2024
